Opus One TECH introduces Technohaven Integrated Banking System (TIBS) as their premier Banking Solution.

1. Why TIBS?

Is your bank as smart as you are? Does it know your clients as well as you do? If the answer to any of these is a "no" then you are not using your computing resources optimally. Banks throughout the world have been the early adopters of information technology; so much so that IT departments are today a core operation of a bank. However, this has also resulted in ‘business as usual’ when it comes to strategic decisions on IT. Just as banking products evolve slowly over time, usually over decades, so is the pace of change in IT departments in banks. As a result your bank may be using technology that is or has been obsolete for years. As a bank manager you might be getting the information you have been asking for and so might think the computer system adequately serves your needs. But then what you are missing out on are the agility and flexibility with which banks with the latest in information technology can address the changing and exacting needs of clients. These nimble players can make money in products and services that you might find impossible with your IT infrastructure. Moreover the cost of ownership of the newer systems are much lower, a fact that would directly contribute to the bottom-line of any bank. The heart of such a state-of-the-art computer system of a bank is the central banking software that manages the core banking operations. According to a study done by INSEAD, the leading European school of business, strategic investments in IT provide banks with unprecedented competitiveness. Banks without such investments are bound to find themselves playing second fiddle to their competitors well-endowed with the latest in computer software and networks.

If the above troubles you then don’t despair; help is close at hand and it comes in a package named TIBS. TIBS – the acronym of Technohaven Integrated Banking System – is a banking solution designed and developed with the latest in software tools and engineering methodologies. Its design and development took place under the rigorous quality assurance procedures of ISO 9001 and it incorporates the global standard in EFT transactions specified under ISO 8583 as a core design feature. What all this mean is that TIBS is a highly robust, fault-tolerant and secure banking software that is ready to take on the world of e-commerce and e-banking right now.

2. Outstanding features that make TIBS different

What sets TIBS apart from the scores of banking software competing for a piece of the global banking industry are the following:

A. Multiple Layers of Parameterization
B. Unbreakable Security
C. Exceptional Fault-tolerance
D. Unprecedented Client Focus
E. Ease of Use and Maintainability 24x7 Support

A. Parameterization

TIBS has given a new meaning to parameterization. In TIBS banking products, services, interests, transaction processes, currencies, denominations and authority ceilings are fully definable without recourse to programming or customization. This imparts flexibility to the business process of the bank; bankers can revise their operational strategy in response to the ever changing local or global market environments without having to depend on the software vendor to implement the changes.

B. Unbreakable Security By design, TIBS inherited a multilevel security structure. The security of the software conforms to international standards and is state-of-the-art. TIBS shields the bank from any unauthorized users and hackers from all around the globe. Broadly we can divide TIBS security as under:

Software level security: This security is inherited from the Operating System (e.g., UnixWare), Database (e.g., Oracle 9i) and Application itself. These security systems will not allow unauthorized users to enter the system. They also protect it from deadly virus or other harmful unwanted programs; impose user level restrictions (e.g. a teller can not perform the functions of supervisory officers)

Physical security: TIBS also provides as option integrated smart card that stores security data on the card along with the user id/pwd to give access. Via smart card reader.

Encryption/firewall: TIBS employs encryption and firewall to protect internet banking. This security saves the software and the system from the attack of virus and hackers on the internet. There are several key features integrated with the internet security system:
A. SSL security(for remote internet client to web server)
B. Asymmetric key based encrypting using PGP from web server and application server to database server
C. Advance packet filtering firewall in DB server.

C. Exceptional Fault-tolerance

TIBS is based on exceptional fault-tolerant architecture. The UNIX operating system provides exceptional support in this regard. Any type of discrepancy or fatal error by the user is tolerated by the system. Even the disaster recovery support provide extra protection incase of natural or man-made disaster. TIBS does not allow any erroneous command for execution. Before final execution of any entry, the system asks the user for reconfirmation. Any wrongly executed transaction can be traced out at the day-end processing. Such errors can be corrected with journal entries by supervisory officers. All transactions are permanently logged for audit purposes.

D. Unprecedented Client Focus

One need not remind us that ‘Customer is King’. It is our product that can prove its unprecedented client focus as it was built on this principle from the start. With the flexibility of product and process definition and parameterization the client need not call us to rename or introduce any product rather they can do it on their own.

E. Ease of Use and Maintainability

TIBS is built on user friendly platforms. Any banker irrespective IT awareness level can get the best out of the system within a maximum training of 12 hours. Besides a well defined user manual and the help desk can clarify any kind of discomfort regarding the operation of the system. The maintenance of the system is transparent and simple as the product is built on industry-standard development tools.

4. Overview of TIBS Architecture

Development in banking services has forced banks to implement the latest technological advances into their business. TIBS can help any bank adopt state-of-the-art banking practices immaculately. It is an integrated banking solution with the flexibility that allows initial conversion and ongoing expansion in manageable increments. At the same time the system has been designed as a structured, modular solution that isolates each component of the application, so that changes in one portion of the system have little or no effect on other areas. Therefore, TIBS is able to accommodate continual enrichment without major structural and architectural changes.

Most of the processing occurs on the server, which handles the data and presentation layers in an intelligent server. The client only handles the presentation layer. This allows any ordinary PC to work as a client computer. However, it can also cause a bottleneck at the server because the server is responsible for supporting two layers of the application. Again Client/Server architecture, most of the processing is performed on the client’s computer. For this type of architecture, the client computer must be more powerful. However, the server is less likely to be cause of bottleneck, but heavier network traffic is generated and administering such a system involves a lot of overhead.

To overcome these problems more advanced n-tier Client Server architecture has been chosen for TIBS. In this n-tier architecture we define three separate architectural layers. They are the Client Tier, The Application Server Tier and the Database Server Tier. The Client Tier handles interaction with the user. The Application Server tier is in the middle, and communicates with both the Client and Database Server. The Database tier is the top tier of this n-tier architecture. This structure offers two-fold advantage. First this structure minimizes the chance of a bottleneck at the server and makes expansion easier. Again since the processing gets distributed the network traffic is also reduced substantially. Enterprise-wide systems are best suited for this design.

The Client System: Under the n-tier architecture of TIBS the client system is defined as an inexpensive unit. The client needs only to talk to the application server via the TCP/IP Protocol. Client Systems will contain only the SQL Net and the supporting Devices and Drivers installed in it. Client Systems also contain the runtime versions of application modules residing on the Application Server. The Application Server:

The Application Server is the middle tier of this architecture and serves as its heart. This is where all the business rules reside. The application server does all communications with the client and also pulls information from the Database Server as and when required. The Application Server contains SQL Net installed in it.

The Database Server: The database server is the data repository of TIBS. The database server is the largest and most powerful in the system. The Database Server, services requests from the application server, providing it with the data requested. It is designed to work with any RDBMS such as Oracle 9i.

5. TIBS, a global banking solution with strong local support

A sought after banking software should be a fully integrated, multi-currency, multi-branch banking system providing applications to service all major areas of banking including: Customer Services/Retail/Private Banking, Commercial Lending/Advances, Treasury and capital Markets, Trade Finance, Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT), Enhanced Letter of Credit, Phone Banking, POS & ATM Management and Remote Customer Access (Internet Banking).

The TIBS approach is one of total flexibility and results in a system which is fully adaptable to meet the needs of its users. System flexibility and user definable processing conditions and parameters enable TIBS to be easily implemented in most countries, with little or no technical assistance.

At Opus One TECH we strive to deliver added value to our clients by offering proven software and quality services. We set clear objectives for each individual project based on deliverables, resources and deadlines. The TIBS implementation methodology has been built on the techniques and experience acquired through each successive installation and conversion. Project management techniques are employed from development phase to the implementation of the software at the client end which abide by the clearly stated rules conforming to ISO 9001 procedures. Thus TIBS is a global banking solution with global standards.
